INTRODUCTION
------------
AppleWin is a freeware Apple //e emulator for Windows, written by Michael
O'Brien. It emulates an enhanced Apple //e with 128k RAM, two disk drives,
a joystick and a serial card. It supports all //e video modes, including
double high-res, and emulates either a color or monochrome monitor. It also
features adjustable system speed control.
AppleWin is a 32-bit Windows program, and is compatible with Windows 3.1,
95, and NT. Unlike previous versions of AppleWin, this version does not
require a separate copy of the executable for Windows 3.1 support.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR WINDOWS 3.1
------------------------------------
To use AppleWin on Windows 3.1, you must install Win32s version 1.25a or
higher. Also, in order to use a joystick with AppleWin, you must obtain
and install the joystick driver for Windows. After installing the driver,
remember to calibrate your joystick using the control panel.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR OS/2 WARP
----------------------------------
Since OS/2 emulates Windows 3.1, all of the above Windows 3.1 instructions
apply. Additionally, you may need to obtain and install vw32s.zip, which
patches a bug in OS/2's virtual memory handling.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR WINDOWS NT
-----------------------------------
Windows NT 3.1 had very poor video performance. It is highly recommended
that you run AppleWin on NT 3.5 or higher.
If you have an older version of the Common Controls library installed,
AppleWin's configuration dialog may not work. You will need to install
an updated version of comctl32.dll.
Note that Windows NT does not currently support joysticks.
